Easing passenger congestion on the Dartford, Sevenoaks and Hayes routes.
DEG Signal was appointed to provide both site investigation and signalling design services to Mouchel Rail as part of the 12 Car Kent Suburban Platform Extension Project.
Project outline and objective
The project objective was to investigate works for the design and the upgrade of infrastructure to allow 12-car units comprised of 2 x 4 class 465’s and 2 x 2 class 466 units to operate on the Dartford (via Sidcup and Bexleyheath), Sevenoaks and Hayes routes thus allowing significant increase in capacity for a part of the Kent Network which is currently operating at full capacity. The routes are expected to have a rising demand in commuter growth in the next twenty years and there is already a high level of latent demand.
Site Investigations and design
DEG Signal Ltd was commissioned to carry out site investigation works to enable the production of signalling GRIP4 documentation for Approval-in-Principle. DEG produced Signalling Scheme Plans, Final Project Specifications, Signalling Overrun Risk Assessments, and Signal Sighting. DEG worked in conjunction with other engineering disciplines to provide a complete engineering package. This included telecoms, civil engineering and permanent way.
